Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Programme Support :
- Build capacity in agronomic practices for increased productivity and resource conservation, focusing on soils, water, and biodiversity.
- Oversee crop production, soil health, pest control, and compliance with agricultural standards.
- Ensure agricultural interventions align with national policies and frameworks, such as the Comprehensive Agriculture Transformation Program.
- Collaborate with government departments (Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries) at national and sub-national levels.
- Promote Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) using models like Regreen our Communities, Farming God’s Way, and Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration.
- Work with other technical programs (Health, iWASH, Education) to integrate nutrition-sensitive crops, water use, and school environmental clubs.
- Ensure adherence to sustainable agronomic practices and represent the organization in agriculture and climate forums locally and internationally.
- Provide leadership and technical support to Area Programs (APs) in agriculture production, climate adaptation, and resilience, helping families grow nutritious food.
- Collaborate with the Resource Mobilization department to design agriculture and climate resilience proposals.
- Support Monitoring & Evaluation to capture data on production trends.
- Assess agriculture activity implementation, ensuring adherence to scope, time, and budget.
- Collaborate with the communications department to develop IEC materials on agriculture and climate resilience.
- People Management:
- Facilitate Training of Trainers (TOT) for partners and staff to enhance technical capacity.
- Provide staff orientation and mentor technical program staff for competency development.
- Contribute to performance appraisals for technical staff at the AP level.
- Networking & Collaboration:
- Represent the organization in agriculture and climate-related meetings and working groups.
- Build technical relationships with stakeholders for enhanced collaboration.
- Programme Effectiveness & Quality Assurance:
- Support research on agriculture and climate topics, producing technical briefs for stakeholders.
- Adapt findings from monitoring and evaluation to inform program improvements.
- Compile and review monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on agriculture initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Agriculture Sciences (Crop Science) with a minimum of 7 years of experience. A Master’s Degree is preferred with at least 5 years of experience.
- Strong skills in Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Disaster Risk Reduction, vulnerability assessments, and program management.
- Must be a member of the Agricultural Institute of Zambia.
- Excellent communication, analytical, decision-making, and networking skills.
- Experience in working in cross-cultural environments and in NGOs is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Work Environment:
- Office-based 40%, fieldwork 60%.
- Some international travel required.
